These are the travellifts at Front Street Shipyard. They are 150 ton
and 440 ton capacity.
0108-tower99-packing
With an accepted offer on a house in Belfast and inspections done it
is time to pack again.
0114-tower99-packing
Packing is progressing. The mountain of boxes is growing.
0115-tower99-packing
Packing the bowflex and free weights was challenging.
0122-tower99-packing
The office bookself and file cabinets had to be packed.
0123-tower99-packing
The wrapped bookshelf, file cabinets, and desk are added to the
mountain of things to be moved from Bangor to Belfast.
0124-bangor-30in-snow
Bangor got 23 inches of snow in 24 hours, a record. There was a total
of 30 inches in this snowfall. Some shoveling was needed to free the
car.
0126-bangor-snow-crew
After 30 inches of snow there was a freeze and then a rain. The city
of Bangor didn't handle this well in some places and one is the
Franklin Street bridge. They put huge snow piles over the drains so
when it rained it flooded the bridge. The trucks here are at the low
spot in over a foot of water. The drains were hand dug and a worker
freed some ice from a drain with a heavy steel rod. With some water
flow going out, everyone left.
0127-bangor-snow-removal
The next night Bangor got some heavy snow moving equipment out,
possibly borrowed from the airport or highway construction. The
grader in particular was effective but likely borrowed from highway
construction. The airport might have already cleaned up and lent
heavy equipment to the town due to the need. The last step was a
truck with giant snowblower that fills a construction dump but I
didn't get a photo of that.
0202-tower99-packing
The pile of boxes and things that need to be moved from Bangor to
Belfast continues to grow as closing date approaches. This was the
day of closing and the movers came the day after closing.
0203-belfast-move-in
The pile of boxes has just been moved from Bangor to Belfast. There
is a great view of the water from the Belfast house. This is
Penobscot Bay and I think there is ice out there on the salt water.
It was -20F on the day of the move. It was -40F to -60F with wind
chill.
0204-belfast-move-in
Having just moved in the bed had to be reassembled. I had good reason
to clean the kitchen cabinets before putting anything in them.
0206-belfast-move-in
The move into the Belfast house is progressing.
0209-belfast-move-in
The spice drawer needed cleaning but has lots of room. The oven
needed cleaning. The granite countertops had lost color and was more
white in places, likely due to water sitting in those places.
0210-belfast-move-in
This has move views of the kitchen granite countertops.
0212-belfast-move-in
This cabinet door had to be removed for a thorough cleaning.
0213-belfast-move-in
Kitchen cleanup continued to progress. Another task was finding out
the make and model of the hot tub.
0218-belfast-sunrise
The sunrise views in February from the bedroom and other parts of the
house are beautiful.
0219-belfast-office
The office was now partially set up in an extra bedroom in the Belfast
house. This is neither a good use of an extra bedroom nor a great
space to set up the office.
0219-sunrise
Sunrise in winter seems to offer the best view of the sun coming up
over the horizon. It is not quite a sunrise over water as Castine is
visible in the distance. The photos were just after sunrise when the
morning sky is still red.
0226-penobscot-fog
This is a view of Penobscot Bay on a foggy day overlooking the back
deck. The bay is visible but obscured.
0228-belfast-garage
At this point I am taking inventory of the junk left in the garage by
the previous owners. Some is potentially very useful such as the
spare flooring that I can use to repair the wood floor where the dog
has scratched it. I have plenty of recycling bins since Belfast is
fussy about separating into two categories of paper plus cardboard and
two categories of plastic. Also glass and cans and other metal are
recycled. I'm still unclear as to how e-waste is handled.
0304-belfast-snow-shovel
After a succession of moderate snowfalls the pile of snow alongside
the driveway grew to about four feet. My neighbor Ed kindly stopped
by and helped out. Next winter I expect to have a snowblower courtesy
of Mike and DeWalt wanting to test some prototypes in Maine snow.
0306-parking-lot-snow
These are some parking lot snow piles. Two are a sizeable pile in an
Augusta mall, one is a highway rest stop in Kenebeck.
0321-orleans-driveway
Tara had some hardscaping done in the front yard and part of it was
changing the border of the driveway for easier access to the parking
spot by the deck steps.
0322-rhodie-shopping
Tara wants new foundation plants and these were some rhodies
considered for the front corners of the house.
0322-turkeys
Of course when you put down grass seed it attracts bird, in this case
a larger variety, turkeys. They arrived before we were even done
putting the straw down and this is one time when their being
comfortable being near people is a problem. The toms displaying in
the road were more interested in watching the hens than feeding.
0326-orleans-walls
I took photos of the photos on the wall before taking them down so we
would know which goes where. This was piling everything in the middle
of the room in preparation for painter. This is Tara's house in
Orleans.
0327-turkeys
This set of hens is working on the grass seed pile that I put outside
the seeded part of the lawn to allow them to feed without taking away
grass seed intended as part of reseeding.
0328-turkey-toms
Three turkey toms are displaying. They seem to be friends, possibly
part of a gang protecting their hens from rivals.
