No one attempted to tack though the narrow shallow side of the island. These photos show the fleet close hauled sailing for the corner of the island.

In the second photo the four leading boats are all on the same tack, with the first three fairly closely spaced. The later photos show the remainder of the fleet in pursuit. In the last photo a small powerboat cuts in front of the safety boat, not causing any danger, but certainly creating quite a wake for one of the racers.
