1001-erin-precipice
These are photos taken by Erin of our hike on the Precipice Loop at
Acadia National Park with Daniel.
1001-precipice-trail
Daniel arrived on Thu Sep 28. On Sep 30 we surprised Erin with Daniel
present to pick her up at Portland airport. The next day, Oct 1, we
hike the Precipice Trail at Acadia. This is a lot of steep hiking and
turns into vertical rock faces with iron rungs in the rocks. The
views are greeat and its a challenging loop.
1003-maiden-cliff
Daniel went home on Monday and on Tuesday Erin and I hiked the Maiden
Cliff trail.
1004-decking-unload
On Wed morning additional decking was delivered although it has not
yet been needed due to focusing on fixing rot on the house.
1008-lighthouse-visit
Prior to Kat and David arriving Erin and I walked to a few lighthouses
and went to the Maine Lighthouse Museum though Erin was more
interested in scrambling on the rip rap by the shoreline.
1009-erin-penobscot-mt
These are photos taken by Erin of our hike to Penobscot Mountain at
Acadia National Park with Kat and David.
1009-kat-penobscot-mt
These are photos taken by Kat and David of a hike on Penobscot
Mountain at Acadia National Park.
1009-penobscot-mt
The four of us, Kat, David, Erin, and me, hiked Penobscot Mountain and
then returned along the Jordan Pond Trail. The initial hike from the
south end to Penobscot Mountain is briefly steep but then turns to a
long gradual hike along the rocks to the summit.
1011-beehive-hike
The Beehive was shorter and easier than Precipice but with a sections of
vertical rock or steep with iron rungs.
After hiking the Beehive Loop Erin and I walked to Thunder Hole and
Erin climbed a lot of the rock outcropping along the shoreline.
Thunder Hole itself was interesting but with quite a few tourists.
1011-erin-beehive
These are photos taken by Erin of our hike on the Beehive Loop at
Acadia National Park.
1011-erin-coast
These are photos taken by Erin of our hike along part or the coast of
Mt Desert Island between Sandy Beach and Thunder Hole.
1011-house-rot
This photo shows the condition of some of the rot that had to be fixed
before any further progress could be made on the back deck. In the
corner there had been carpenter ants but it was sprayed this spring.
1012-house-rot
Most of the rot has been exposed. A 230V line to the hot tub and a
unused gas line (formerly for a propane grill) were in the way of
tearing back further but were later removed. About 8-10' of material
had to be removed exposing the joists. There was some slightly spongy
subfloor in the MBR but that can wait until the floor is replaced at
some time in the future. A poorly installed doggie door was part of
the problem and has since been removed.
1030-enchiladas
This is the ingredients and completed enchiladas for my recipe web pages.
1105-deck-progress
More progress has been made on the deck site work and ground level framing.
1107-red-curry-tofu
This is ingredients minus tofu for the red curry tofu for my recipes
web pages.
1111-deck-progress
The ground level deck framing is nearing completion.
1116-shin-bump
While splitting wood at Will's I got a nasty bump on my shin from wood
falling to the side of the wood splitter. This bump remained so far
to mid-December but smaller now.
1119-logging-saw
This is the logging saw at one of Will's neighbor's house.
1123-wood-split-crew
Most of the Thanksgiving wood splitting crew is in the photo. Shannon
took the photo so she is not in it. This is at Jo-Ann's house.
1123-wood-split-girls
This is the all girl wood splitting team at Jo-Ann's house. Margo,
Jo-Ann, and Shannon. More Thanksgiving wood splitting.
1125-wood-pile
This is the wood pile we ended up with after splitting wood at
Jo-Ann's house on Thanksgiving and the next day.
1127-house-progress
More progress is made on the siding on the house. Some insulation and
sheet rock is needed on the inside wall where the doggie door used to
be. There is plenty of trash to pick up after removing rot from the
house.
1204-snow-day
This was the first snow of the season. It is rather late coming in
the beginning of December and not much of it.
1205-heating-system
These are photos of the propane heating system and domestic hot water
heater. These were taken for the benefit of a ground source heat pump
installer that will be stopping by in January.
1216-sunrise
This was sunrise with some striped red in the clouds. It was a bit
brighter before I took the shots but I was slow to get moving. The
third photo is my favorite though none are specacular.
1217-breaker-panels
This set of photos of the electric meter and the breaker panels in the
garage and in the house were taken for the benefit of describing the
work needed for solar, battery, and heat pump electrical installation.
1217-garage-panel
This is the west garage wall with the electric service panel on the
left. This wall, minus the junk on the wall and in front of the wall,
is where I would like to put inverters and batteries if I install
solar with batteries. There is 16 feet between the window and door
leaving one stub spacing worth (16") on either side.
1222-christmas
All three dogs at Jo-Ann's for Christmas are in one photo underfoot.
Lily had not arrived yet.
1223-christmas
Jo-Ann did a great job decorating her gnome house in the upper
driveway. Erin and Mike arrived but Erin was initially not very
lively.
1224-christmas
I got a photo of Midnight relaxing in an odd position. Someone got my
phone and took a few photos of me petting Patches and Lexi.
