0705-fleet15
Finally a good sunny Sunday to take photos of Fleet 15. The
spinnakers are starting to come out in preparation for the NACR.
This was the second race day of the three race days of the Commodore Series.

0722-ds-nacr-practice
This was the first use of my 35mm camera, a Canon AE-1, since about
2006. Those photos were excellent.
The first problem was that the camera battery was dead. The second
problem is that the camera shop no longer sells anything other than
ASA-200 and ASA-400 film, both low light level films. ASA-25 (slide
film) or at least ASA-100 give much better contrast in higher light
levels.
On first insertion of the battery, the shutter wouldn't work. On
second insertion the light meter was giving readings that didn't seem
right. I went with it and the reading were not right. I used a
slower shutter speed and the photos were overexposed and a bit blurred
due to the motion.
Despite this some photos came out. The really bad ones were deleted.

Two days after the DS NACR practice race I had much better luck with
the 35mm camera. Photos of DS NACR race 7 and race 8 came out fine.
Some were taken with a digital camera.
A third reinsertion of the camera battery got the light meter
working. With strong sunlight these were shot with shutter speeds of
500 and later 250 as the sun went down and at F8 to F22. This gave
little or no motion blur and very good depth of field.
A few phots had to be tossed but nearly all of the photos were fairly
good. They are a little disappointing but this might be the best that
can be expected using ASA-200 film.

There was a general recall on the first start.
After the start, photos were taken from upwind of the windward mark.
Due to wind shift, the windward mark was moved, rplacing the red mark
with a yellow mark. Another set of photos were taken upwind of this
mark.
A few photos were then taken of the finish, though offset from the
line.

In the interest of getting colorful spinnaker shots, these photos were
taken anchored downwind of the leaward mark.
Some of the photos are digital. This was due to running out of shots
on a 35mm roll and not having time to reload as boats passed. This
made it hard to sequence the photos (no time stamps on the 35mm). The
digitals have noticably darker backgrounds.
0725-tub
There was some minor damage to the reglazed tub in our bathtub rennovation.
This was repaired (at cost) but two years later the floor of the tub
started to peel.
We wanted to keep this tub due to the weight of the cast iron in this
older tub so we had it reglazed.
In retrospect, we now know this was a mistake.
We should have bought a new tub.

This was the 2016 Club Championship.
Carol, Wayne, Will, and Wes raced and finished in that order.

0826-daysailer
These photos are of a project boat that I picked up.
This is a O'Day Daysailer I from the 1960s, hull 333
if the title and hull sticker are to be believed.
Photos were taken after some of the hardware was removed
and the boat was power washed. Part of the reason to do this
is to remember where blocks were placed before removing
the rest of the hardware. Many of the lines will be run
differently when the boat goes back together.
0906-race-clinic
This was the 2015 daysailer race clinic.
Carol and Dave ran this.
We ran a lot of short practice races to practice starts and strategy.
Carol and Dave got on some of the boats for coaching.
The improvements in sail trim were visible from the committee boat.

Every two years OYC has a Commodore's Reception.
This is a fairly formal event as OYC events go.
The purpose is to honor past commodores and welcome the new commodores.
These photos were of Bill and Nancy sitting by the row of
American flags.
Bill was OYC commodore back in the late 1960s
and is considered a daysailer living legend.
