0714-fleet15
This was a Fleet 15 Cove Series race day. Winds were mostly light,
picking up a bit in the second race, but then going very light in the
third race. Wind started from North and veered East, then South, and
then by the time we were in the mooring field West and heading back
toward North. This made it hard to set a good course.
0720-ds-regatta-anton-asa
Anton took some photos of the OYC Daysailer Regatta. These mostly
awards photos were taken using Anton's film camera and converted to
digital. Full results are listed on the Fleet 15 racing results web
page but are 3rd: (14036) Bob Lemaire and son Marc Lemaire, 2nd:
(2834) Ted Dickson and Meredith Dart, 1st: (2015) Natalie
Coleman-Fuller and Allison Coleman.
0720-ds-regatta-anton-dsc
Anton took some photos of the OYC Daysailer Regatta. These photos
were taken using Anton's digital camera. The first few are food
committee, other pre-race including Greg, our PRO, and commodores
Steve and Beth. Most are racing phots with some race committee and a
few lunchtime photos.
0720-ds-regatta-foodcomm
A few of the OYC Daysailer Regatta food committee volunteers are
taking a morning break after breakfast setup.
0723-tree-damage
Yet another wind storm on Cape Cod. This storm was the one bringing
tornados to parts of Yarmouth and Dennis. Orleans was mostly spared.
Harwich was more affected. This bow fell across our driveway. One
large azalea took a lot of damage and this one has taken tree limb
damage a few times in the recent past. Its survival was not at risk
and it has since recovered somewhat.
0728-fleet15
This was an OYC Commodore Series race day. Only a few photos were
taken, one fairly good one of Steve in the safety boat.
0803-move-boat
This photo was moving the boat to cut the lawn under the boat. A few
people thought it was launch time since launch was already way
overdue. The truck being in the foreground looks oversized.
0819-dirty-boat
This pair of photos show why the boat wasn't launched yet. It is
filthy with black residue everywhere except at this point the cabintop
which is the only thing cleaned and provides a contrast.
0820-boat-cleanup
Another set of photos shows some progress on cleaning the boat. The
bow is clean. The starboard sidedeck and half the starboard coaming
are clean. The photos show the contrast between the clean bow and
clean cabintop and the still filthy port sidedeck and cockpit.
0822-new-rudder
One of these photos shows the old rudder and the new rudder. The
other three show the new rudder on the half cleaned boat.
0823-clean-deck
The boat deck and cockpit are finally clean. This took a few days of
scrubbing but was well worth it. The topsides were later cleaned and
before launch the bottom was power washed again.
0910-tiller-line-bite
A new piece of line was purchased for the severely worn tiller lock
line. Both are the same 12 strand high abbrasion resistant line. The
old line was jamming in the tiller lock and was clearly near the point
of breaking.
0911-diesel-model
This is a photo of the cover of the diesel manual for the new to us
Mariner Yachts 36. The photo was taken before purchase so I could
look up the engine online.
0911-dinghy-repair
This set of photos show the clamped up wood added to the stern half of
the dinghy gunwalls and the transom. There are temporary oar lock
mountings as more wood is expected to be added to the gunwalls with
more reinforcement in the area of the oar locks. Top mount oar locks
are likely to be used when all the work is done.
0914-falmouth-knob
Tara and I went to see the Mariner Yachts 36 and on the way back
stopped at Falmouth Knob. This is a beautiful short walk with a great
view of Buzzards Bay at the knob itself.
0914-ibis-bottom-paint
These photos were taken for my own use in considering whether to buy
the Mariner Yachts 36 for sale in Falmouth, at that time named Ibis.
This set of photos shows the keel and bottom condition. Paint seem to
be in good condition. The bottom and keel are a bit rough but no sign
of repaired damage.
0914-ibis-cabin+systems
This is a set of photos of the cabin, engine compartment, and systems
on Ibis, the Mariner Yachts 36 for sale in Falmouth. A lot of
measurements were made as well. Storage is a bit lacking and systems
seemed OK but showed their age. The fresh water and electrical
systems were not really OK but that would be discovered much later.
0914-ibis-cockpit+cabintop
This is a set of photos of the decks, cabintop, and cockpit on Ibis,
the Mariner Yachts 36 for sale in Falmouth. A lot of measurements
were made here too. Again no glaring deficiencies were noted but age
was showing. Important things like the winches, steering, traveller,
booms, and line handling were in good shape. Wood had been varished
but had nearly completely peeled.
0914-ibis-topside
These are photos of the topsides on Ibis, the Mariner Yachts 36 for
sale in Falmouth. The topsides were in good shape. They have been
buffed and waxed but due to age are a bit chalky. They need at least
a more thorough buffing but might be candidates for Awlgrip.
0917-dinghy
The aft half of the gunwales and the top edge of the transom are show
glued and clamped. A first step in making lifting handles are also
shown clamped.
0918-turkeys
The wild turkeys are back. This was just a few but the first visit
this fall.
0929-lydia
Lydia is modelling her tie dye apron made by Jo-Ann last year. Again
this year Lydia was part of the food committe for the OYC Yankee Duo,
a two sunfish regatta.
